HL7 message type to send/receive real-time alerts

Are there any HL7 message types to send/receive real-time alerts? i.e. send real-time message to client's EHR to alert the client or user and receive acknowledgment/response. This would help us to create a To-do list.

Thanks
Kummar

Really you can use whatever message type you want, so long as the sender and receiver are in agreement about which fields mean what. Also, chapter 14 in the specifications deals with application management events, like NMD-N02.

Thanks for the quick response. After looking at NMD-N02, it looks like it is for application management messaging. I am looking for a message type where I can alert a physician that a particular patient needs additional care or alert nurse that it is time to administer patient's medication. If there is no specific message type available, then which is the closest message type that I can use.

Thanks

Not sure; your best bet is to look through the HL7 specifications and decide which event type best matches your specific use-case. Or you can use whatever you want (doesn't even have to be HL7) if you're in control if the entire interface.
