If you do a .toString() on an xml element it will return the value of the element. If the value is XML it will return the xml in string form

Just wanted to let everyone know that I solved my issue. My outbound template was set to 'delimited' I changed it to XML and all is well.

Since you have 'true' in the condition javascript interprets it as a boolean and the condition...

this solotion works great for OBR NTE segments, but what about PID NTE segments, I tried using the same concept, but each time I and an NTE segment it overwrites the previous one. Any suggestions?

I have been trying for quite a while now to add NTE segments under PID and OBR segments without defining them in the outgoing template for HL7 2.3. Any help would be appreciated.
