Default MC install on LINUX - total newby

I'm new to LINUX. I'm trying to get MC v3.5.1 installed. Java 8 is installed on the VM (Google Cloud) running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I could not figure out how to install MC on this box, so I asked my client to do the install. I supplied them with the install program: mirthconnect-3.5.1.b194-unix

I went to run the Mirth Connect Server Manager and I'm getting a startup Error:

at com.install4j.runtime.launcher.UnixLauncher.main(U nixLauncher.java:57)

This does not make sense to me. It looks like it is trying to access the system Tray like on a Windows OS.

Does anyone have an idea of what to do next?

If I just type installing mirth on linux in google, this is a video that comes up

I suspect the installation went wrong and some files are missing, which is causing that exception. You might have to clean install it.
