Question JavaScript vs Message Builder Performance

Is there a difference in performance when using a JavaScript step to assign a variable or value to the tmp message versus using the Message Builder?

I haven't seen anything mentioning this on the forums and it seems like it would easier to have all of the assignments in 1 JavaScript step instead of 20 message builder steps.
