Default Possible to add date as custom metadata and search by range?

Just judging by what's available in the UI, I'm guessing the answer is going to be "no", but thought it couldn't hurt to ask & maker sure there wasn't a trick to making this work that I hadn't uncovered yet.

In Connect, is it possible to create a custom metadata field that contains a date that can be searched via a date/time range?

In our particular case, we're trying to improve our ability to QA Syndromic Surveillance messages by searching for messages by Visit Date, not by Date Received. Obviously I can extract the Visit Date as a string and put it in a text-searchable field, but that's not so helpful when you'd like to find a count of messages received containing a Visit Date within a specific date range.

Thanks for any tips!

(Version is Connect 3.6.1)
