Default Can I purge old data from D_MC<id> and D_MM<id> database tables

We are performing message pruning older than 7 days.

However, when I look at the backend database tables, I am finding large database tables (eg. D_MM<id> and D_MC<id>) with records that contain dates and data back to 2016.

Is it safe to purge or delete old data from these DB tables?

Are there any side-effects of purging data from these tables?

Samples numbers/sizes (from ADT messages from a large hospital system)
D_MC84 (75.9 million rows, 8471115 blocks)
D_MM84 (17.1 million rows, 499416 blocks)

Default

I would not advise to go directly to the db and delete things. but if you want to delete, every channel has data stored under 6 different table.

D_M# (message metadata)", "D_MA# (message attachments)", "D_MC# (message content)", "D_MCM# (message custom metadata)",
"D_MM# (message connector-specific metadata)", "D_MS# (message statistics)");
