DB2 / AS400 access

We have reviewed all tips at forum about using db2 but that does not appear to be clearly, so any help would be appreciated.

Could anyone show us a sample to make a connection to a db2/as400 database as making an sql to recover simple data like "select CODE, DESCRIPTION from table1"

What do we need to connect to the database, unixodbc, jdbc, IBM native drivers, etc?
