Hi mahars80,

at this point, and presuming that images can be managed and routed in a Mirth channel I can answer your questions.

"...image data is not being routed and I did not understand the problem?..."

Well if we are working with DICOM as a data & image integration is absolutely normal that we need to work with both entities. For example, in one channel I can route DICOM images to another server depending of its format, kind of modality, etc. Another tipical scenary is deconstruct DICOM file, extract image, convert it to a light format (gif, jpg) for reporting purpouses, rename this file with data contained in data layer of DICOM file and discard the rest.

"...Which type of dicom messages does it used for?..."

Another possible scenary is admin workflows, for example, when I receive DICOM data from a patient, I can detect what kind of activity was performed and generate a billing HL7 message for ERP system. Coming back to medical staff, I can inform to physician that the procedure was completed not by a HL7 message, simply awaiting for DICOM msg reception, working with DICOM SR files extracting data directly from ultrasound equipments, etc, etc, etc...

HTH,

Ricard Bernat
