Default Can the timeout be increased on SQL DB connections?

We recently ran into an issue where a firewall change created just enough latency that every 5th or 6th message we were trying to write to a SQL database would fail with a connection timeout error. This ended up being difficult to track down because manually opening and manipulating the table from SSMS would not reproduce the error.

This was fixed and has not occurred since, but I wondered if we could increase the default timeout for the transaction somehow.

This connection is using dbconn in javascript to INSERT the transactions rather than the database connection settings. Is there a means to increase the amount of time dbconn will wait before timing out if its connection is slow?
