Default Installation issue

This problem was encountered when installing Mirth Connect on a Windows Vista machine. This machine previously had an installation of Mirth (same revision) on it that became unresponsive (couldn't login, Mirth Server Manager couldn't start service). Towards the end of the install a window with this pops up:

"Problem running post-install step. Installation may not complete correctly
Error writing file C:/Program Files/Mirth/conf/***unknown variable database.temp***-SqlMapConfig.properties"

The resulting install is still broken. I can't login. Mirth Server Manager can stop the service, but not start it.

It doesn't have uninstall.exe, so it can't be uninstalled.

Any suggestions?

The uninstall.exe should be located in C:\Program Files\Mirth and should be linked from your start menu.

Fortunately it's not like most Windows software and doesn't splatter stuff all over your disc. If you don't have the uninstaller and need to do a dirty manual deinstall the following should cover it (usual "be careful" caveats regarding registry editing apply):

net stop "Mirth Server" (or stop from the services console)
Delete directory:
C:\Program Files\Mirth
Delete registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\Mirth
Delete registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Mirth
Delete registry key:

Reboot. There's some Java bits for the admin console buried in %APPDATA% but they shouldn't cause an issue in the context of just getting things up and running again.

You should now be good to go. For future reference the %MIRTH%\mirthdb directory is where the Derby database is stored.

If you're using an external database which is knackered you may wish to recreate it.

If you installed the service the uninstaller also removes that. You can do that via the command line if you want. It also sets the Mirth Manager to start up with windows via the registry. You can remove that key before uninstalling by unchecking the start with windows checkbox in the manager.
