Angry Hibernate and annotations don't work

Mirth 3.5.2 and Mirth 3.6.0
Java 1.8, Hibernate 5.1.4

I've had an app running on Mirth for a while with Hibernate and XML config without problem.

I've started to build another app and wanted to use the Hibernate code annotations as a cleaner solution.

However I get the error:
Caused by: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: javax.persistence.Table.indexes()[Ljavax/persistence/Index;

at org.hibernate.cfg.annotations.EntityBinder.process ComplementaryTableDefinitions(EntityBinder.java:11 08)

at org.hibernate.cfg.AnnotationBinder.bindClass(Annot ationBinder.java:774)

The code runs fine as a standalone app from Eclipse but will not run in Mirth.

Help please!

Default

I've had to rework the code to use xml configuration - which is no big deal, but confusing none the less.
Probably academic now but would love to understand why this happens and whether it is possible to overcome
