Default XSLT Transformer Step

Looking to understand how to use the XSLT transformer step. Would like to take in an HL7 v2 msg, convert to v3 (mirth style), run through an XSLT step before sending to a vendor channel.

Goal - Consistent message format no matter what additional Segments or Fields are added into the message. I would like to have the ability to add additional data elements w/o affecting a channel.

To give you an idea, I did the following to test the concept:
- Took an v2.x HL7 msg, ran though Mirth to create a v3 msg.
- Used an online XSD generator and created an XSD using the v3 msg
- Created an XSLT step using the ‘msg’ (xml) as my input and paste the XSD into the XSLT template
- Output the XSLT "result" to the connector template.

However, when I ran a msg through mirth, without anything except this one transformer step, I get the following error: "Wrapped javax.xml.transform.TransformerConfigurationExcept ion: Could not compile stylesheet"

Haven't found good documentation on this XSLT step, however, I did find this forum link: http://www.mirthcorp.com/community/f...lt+transformer

I'm new with Stylesheets, so I'm sure it's a basic concept I'm screwing up here.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.
