Default Mirth in the cloud

Dear Mirth Community,

I am looking into using Mirth to provide an interface between a local radiology clinic and an electronic medical records system (Care360 from MedPlus/Quest). I was hoping to host Mirth on Amazon's EC2 cloud platform. Actually setting Mirth up in the cloud is trivial. However, I am wondering if others are aware of any potential complications of running Mirth in the cloud, especially related to HIPAA, and whether radiology clinics or EMR providers would be wary of sending data to a cloud-based interface. Amazon provides a nice whitepaper on HIPAA and their cloud (http://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/what...tepaper-hipaa/). I don't believe that there are any valid concerns unique to the cloud, but am wondering if anyone in this forum has experience running Mirth on a cloud platform.

Thanks,
Jeremy

I have heard about Patriot Act clauses that allow for government to access data hosted by datacenters in the US... I'm not sure if that specifically contravenes HIPPA, but it might be a consideration.

Default Mirth in the Cloud

Dear Mirth Community,

Like Jeremy, I am also looking into using Mirth Connect in the cloud, specifically with Amazon's AWS. Instead of using a regular EC2, I am looking into an encrypted EC2 using Porticor's offerings (see http://www.porticor.com/) in order to satisfy privacy concerns.

Has anyone else successfully used Mirth Connect with AWS or another cloud provider?
Are there any guidelines available for this?
Does anyone have suggestions on best practices for the cloud deployment?
Is there any chance that Mirth will become an official AWS solution provider (https://aws.amazon.com/solution-providers)?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
+ Richard

Why not host Mirth in the MTS Cloud? MTS is HIPAA Compliant and specializes in Mirth.
