What is Mirth Exchange?

Mirth Exchange is an initiative that makes high-value, standards-based interoperability solutions available to the healthcare community on an open source basis. It is the industry’s first repository of health information exchange interfaces and associated assets — documentation, sample messages, specifications, test harnesses, forums, issue tracking, and utilities — made available on a free and open source basis for community-driven development, testing, sharing, and refinement.

How can I get access to Mirth Exchange and download channels?

Simple. Just create a Mirth Community account, browse for the channel you’re interested in on Mirth Exchange, and then download it.

Next, import the downloaded channel into Mirth Connect and integrate your systems. We’ve got you covered if you need training or support.

Why should an HIE contribute Mirth Channels to Mirth Exchange?

Why should an EHR vendor contribute Mirth Channels to Mirth Exchange?

Why should an HIT vendor contribute Mirth Channels to Mirth Exchange?

Providing friction-free interoperability for your platform will make it easier to sell and faster for your customers to implement. Create and upload a documented Mirth Channel for your system to Mirth Exchange and you’ll make it easy for other systems to integrate with your platform. You’ll have a leg up on your competition if connectivity to your system is available on Mirth Exchange.

Does Mirth Corporation provide commercial support for channels that are in Mirth Exchange?

Yes. As long as you have a valid Mirth Channel Support Agreement with Mirth we will support your Mirth deployment and channels on a per-incident basis.

What license governs Mirth Channels released via Mirth Exchange?

Our contributors choose the open source license governing the channel code.

What licenses are acceptable for Mirth Exchange channels?

Any license that is OSI certified.

How can I contribute a channel to Mirth Exchange?

Simple. Just select “Contribute Channel” from the top of the Mirth Exchange Repository. You’ll be asked to complete a contributor agreement. You can then pass along your channel code to the Mirth Exchange team for integration into the Mirth Exchange site.

Why do I need to forward my channel code to Mirth Corporation, rather than simply uploading it to Mirth Exchange?

The Mirth team will review all code submitted and place it on Mirth Exchange. This process will ensure that the code is properly licensed and is void of proprietary information. In the future we plan to further automate the code submission process to make it even easier for you.

Why do I need to log in to view or download a channel from Mirth Exchange?

The Mirth Exchange site associates your Mirth Community account with the channel as part of accepting and acknowledging the terms of the open source license associated with the Mirth Channel you are viewing or downloading.

Can other Mirth Project related code and assets (e.g. a Mirth Connect Plug-In) be contributed to Mirth Exchange?

Mirth Exchange is currently configured to support only Mirth Channels. Mirth Connect code, including plug-ins, should be contributed to the to the Mirth Connect project directly via the Mirth Connect Community site.

My company would like to partner with Mirth Corporation to develop channels that the Mirth Community requests. Is that possible?

Absolutely. Please get in touch with us and we’ll add your organization to our Mirth Exchange partner list. You will receive information about channels requested by the community and be offered opportunities to develop them as the need arises.

What organizations helped develop and sponsor Mirth Exchange?

Mirth Exchange was initially created and is maintained by generous contributions from Mirth Corporation and HealthBridge. We still have a lot of work that we’d like to do on the Mirth Exchange site, so please get in touch if you’d like to fund or contribute to the continued progress of Mirth Exchange.

Which organizations have contributed channels to Mirth Exchange?

The founding organizations for Mirth Exchange are HealthBridge, Alliance Medical Center, Redwood MedNet, MedSphere, and the Regenstrief Institute. Please get in touch if with us if your organization would like to coordinate on Mirth Channel contributions to Mirth Exchange. You can reach us via our contact page.

Why aren’t there a lot of channels on Mirth Exchange yet?

Mirth Corporation, along with our early partners mentioned above, have made initial contributions to seed the exchange. We will continue to add new interfaces on Mirth Exchange moving forward, and encourage others to do the same.

We have made a call to action to the Mirth Community to contribute their channels to Mirth Exchange. We hope the community that has greatly benefited from a top-notch interface engine gives back and contributes to the exchange.

We made a similar call to action to states, State Designated Entities (SDEs), HIEs, and EHR vendors to contribute to the exchange.

How can I suggest improvements and changes for the Mirth Exchange site?

Mirth welcomes your feedback. We view Mirth Exchange as part of our overall community and both Mirth Exchange and the Mirth community will benefit from your feedback for improvements, changes, bugs, and so on. You can send feedback directly to the Mirth Exchange team by selecting the “Feedback” item near the top of the Mirth Exchange Repository.
