WebReach, Inc. Unveils Mirth 1.6 – NCPDP Support Extends Open Source Interface Engine
Combination of National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP), HL7, and X12 messaging in open source package enables low-cost, common infrastructure for enterprise pharmacy systems.
IRVINE, Calif., August 16, 2006—WebReach, Inc., a leading healthcare IT consultancy and creator of open source Health IT solutions, today announced the open source release of Mirth 1.6 which includes support for NCPDP transactions. The standards-based Mirth software is designed to dramatically reduce the time and cost required to achieve health information system interoperability and data exchange, and to speed secure information sharing across communities of healthcare professionals. Mirth 1.6 also includes new enterprise features such as support for high-volume transaction processing and a plug-in architecture to simplify the inclusion and distribution of Mirth extensions.
“The goal of the Mirth Project is to provide Health IT (HIT) infrastructure tools to support the smooth and secure flow of public open standards-based clinical and administrative information,” said Jon Teichrow, President of WebReach, Inc., Mirth’s main corporate sponsor. “The Mirth Project resonates with Health Information Exchanges (HIE), EHR and PHR vendors, laboratories, hospitals, and HIT system integrators. NCPDP transaction support is a natural extension for Mirth to fast-track the pharmacy industry with low-cost interoperability solutions.”
“Mirth is an open source, standards-based Health IT messaging system that supports NCPDP, X12N, EDI, and HL7 transactions and, as a result, aligns well with the messaging infrastructure advocated by the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs,” said Lee Ann Stember, President of the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs Organization. “Being an OSS HIT interface engine solution, Mirth lowers cost barriers, fosters the NCPDP community, and could facilitate common infrastructures for pharmacy claims, Medication Therapy Management (MTM), and automated Prior Authorization (PA) systems, to name a few.”
“WebReach is tracking the Health Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) and our short term roadmap will focus on the DICOM, IHE and the Continuity of Care Document (CCD) standards,” added Teichrow. “Mirth does the heavy lifting to make it easy for application developers to incorporate support for standards in their applications and provides an enterprise alternative to costly proprietary and in-house systems.”
